Revolut reinforces banking expansion.

Revolut is strengthening its international expansion with a new banking license in Colombia and an application in Switzerland, where it plans to invest CHF 150 million.

Revolut is accelerating the expansion of its international banking business, obtaining a definitive license in Colombia and applying for a banking license in Switzerland. These two moves reinforce the company's strategy of deepening its local presence in markets where it already has a significant customer base.

The company obtained an operating license from the Colombian Financial Superintendency (SFC), fulfilling all the regulatory requirements necessary for its launch in the country. This authorization allows Revolut to operate as a regulated bank in Colombia.

The entry into the Colombian market comes after a year of growth. According to data released by the company, the Group recorded revenues of $6 billion in 2025, 46% more than the previous year, and pre-tax profits of $2,3 billion. Total customer balances reached $67,5 billion.

Revolut currently has over 80 million customers worldwide, and around 200 Colombians are already on the waiting list for the launch. The local offering is expected to include a comprehensive range of financial products, with customer deposits protected by the Fogafín system, in accordance with the Colombian regulatory framework.

Six banking licenses

With the Colombian authorization, Revolut now has six banking licenses worldwide. The company has already obtained full licenses in the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Lithuania, and Mexico.

In 2026, regulatory expansion also included conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a national banking authorization in the United States, a payments license in the United Arab Emirates, and an organization license granted by the Peruvian banking supervisory authority. The company maintains its goal of reaching 100 million customers by mid-2027.

License application in Switzerland

In Switzerland, the process is at a different stage. Revolut has officially submitted an application for a local banking license to the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA). The process is under review and the outcome remains open.

The company has over 1,3 million customers in the Swiss market, which it identifies as its main neobanking market in the country. If the license is granted, it will be able to offer localized banking services, including Swiss IBANs, salary accounts, eBill, merchant acquisition, and access to the Swiss deposit guarantee system. Products such as the 3rd Pillar and TWINT are also under study.

Investment of 150 million CHF

Along with the licensing application, the group announced an investment of over 150 million Swiss francs in Switzerland over the next five years. This amount is expected to finance the development of new products and the creation of local jobs.

Revolut also anticipates appointments to the board of directors and senior leadership team, with the goal of building an independent Swiss banking structure with a local presence. If the license is approved, current customers will be migrated to this entity through a process designed to meet Swiss regulatory requirements.
