The German supermarket chain Lidl has begun testing its Scan&Go service through its Lidl Plus app, which allows customers to scan products in-store from their mobile phones without having to go to the checkout. This first test is being carried out in a store in Neckarsulm, near its headquarters.
The brand aims to allow consumers to shop quickly and at their own pace, inviting them to go through the checkout process, either using self-pay or the traditional method with store employees.
This service can be performed directly through the Lidl app. The customer must activate the in-store scanning function in the app, which allows geolocation to ensure that the store's offers are applied correctly. The procedure is simple: the shopper only needs to scan the barcodes of the selected products (and not the labels on the shelves).
According to Lebensmittel Zeitung, the Scan&Go feature could be implemented internationally, but details of the expansion of this new service are not yet known.
