Arla Foods has launched a bottled water with added protein, called Arla Protein Water. The product is already available in Denmark, the company's home market, initially through gas stations and fitness centers.
According to the company, the drink was developed as a complement to Arla's range of protein products and aims to offer a practical option for on-the-go consumption.
Henrik Lilballe Hansen, director of Arla in Denmark, states that protein has ceased to be a niche product and " has become part of the daily choices of many consumers, creating demand for new formats ."
12 grams of protein per bottle
Each 500ml bottle contains 12 grams of whey protein and electrolytes. According to an Arla spokesperson, quoted by Just Drinks, the beverage is sugar-free and provides 50 calories. The product is bottled at the company's own facilities.
The recommended retail price is 25 Danish kroner (approximately €3,34). For now, distribution is focused on convenience and foodservice channels, and the company intends to evaluate the results of this first phase before considering a retail launch.
Arla has a significant presence in several European markets, including Sweden, Germany, and the United Kingdom. If the experience in Denmark is successful, Protein Water could expand to other countries.
