Klarna, a financial services network for everyday life, has just announced that it has reached the milestone of 1 million customers in Portugal, meaning it is now used by 1 in 8 adults in the country.
Inês Fiúza Marques, Country Manager of Klarna in Portugal, believes that this milestone reflects a change in the payment habits of Portuguese consumers, who are favoring alternatives to credit cards and consumer credit with high interest rates.
“ The Portuguese are opting for new forms of payment that offer more transparency and control, whether through flexible payment options or full payment. Our growth reflects the strength of our partnerships with merchants, the attractiveness of our digital banking services offering, and the demand for smarter financial tools ,” the spokesperson continued.
Over 20 partner brands
Growth has been accompanied by the adoption of features such as cashback, Klarna Card, savings accounts, and payment and order tracking tools. The application also integrates integrated shopping functionalities, including the storage of loyalty cards, expanding its use beyond flexible payments.
Klarna currently works with over 20 retail brands in Portugal, a growth of 143% compared to the previous year. Its partner network covers sectors such as electronics, travel, fashion, home and entertainment, including international brands like Airbnb, Fnac, Decathlon, Mango and Samsung, and national companies such as TAP, HomyCasa, PCDiga, Parfois and Perfumes & Companhia.
