The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) marked its 17th anniversary this Thursday, November 3rd, in defending consumers, food safety, and safeguarding market rules and free competition.
Throughout its activity, ASAE has been carrying out its mission with a strong and incisive intervention in the market, continuing its work of monitoring compliance with the legislation regulating the exercise of economic activities, both in the food and non-food sectors.
Areas of inspection intervention
Within the scope of inspection and oversight areas, the following stand out: 705 economic operators inspected, 23 criminal proceedings, 135 administrative offense proceedings, 9.100 arrests, 12.200 activity suspensions, more than 300 million euros in seized goods, 2.490 complaints and reports (physical and electronic logbook) received, 341 requests for information, more than 142,5 million euros in fines applied, and 48 tons of foodstuffs and approximately 90 items donated.
The recent and growing trend of e-commerce has forced ASAE to invest even more in the area of e-commerce oversight, having inspected more than 45 websites since 2017.
