Uber is exploring the option of including grocery delivery in its Uber Eats service.
According to the Financial Times, the company wants to compete with global operators like Amazon, as well as local companies. The service is already being studied in Australia, in partnership with one of the leading local retailers, Coles.
Uber is also in negotiations with supermarket operators in Europe and North America, including Sainsbury's in the UK. Furthermore, thanks to its partnership with Nestlé and Unilever in the Belgian and Brazilian markets, Uber Eats is already delivering coffee, ice cream, and baby products.
In its second fiscal quarter, Uber reported a loss of $5,2 billion, but its Uber Eats division grew 72% to $595 million.
