Torrestir saves 693,5 tons of CO₂

Sustainable management of fleet tires has allowed for the avoidance of an estimated 204,4 tons of raw material consumption by 2025.

Torrestir estimates that it will have avoided the emission of 693,5 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) and the consumption of 204,4 tons of raw materials by 2025 through the sustainable management of its fleet's tires. These results are included in a statement issued by Michelin, which recognizes the practices of the Portuguese transport and logistics company.

Environmental savings result from measures aimed at extending the life cycle of tires, namely retreading and the use of recapping tires. These practices reduce the need to produce and use new tires, decreasing resource consumption and the associated environmental impact.

In an operation with a large fleet and vehicles subject to intensive use, tire management is a key component of operational efficiency. Extending their lifespan, provided safety and performance conditions are maintained, allows for better resource utilization and reduces the need for complete replacement.

Circular economy in operations

Retreading consists of extending the lifespan of tires by restoring their tread, avoiding complete replacement whenever technical conditions allow. The process allows for giving new life to an existing resource and reducing the consumption of raw materials associated with the manufacture of new tires.

At Torrestir, this approach is part of a broader efficiency and sustainability strategy, which includes fleet renewal, improved vehicle efficiency, renewable energy production, eco-driving training, and the adoption of solutions for more efficient resource use.

According to Commander Fernando Torres, founder and president of the Torrestir Group, sustainability must be present in the concrete decisions of the operation. He highlights tire management as an example of how extending the lifespan of equipment and reusing resources can reconcile operational efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

The performance was recognized by Michelin through the Sustainable Tire Management Certificate, which quantifies the estimated environmental benefits associated with the practices adopted by the carrier in 2025.
