Almost half of Portuguese people have improved their financial situation in the last 5 years.

Consumers globally are showing optimism about their financial well-being, particularly in developing markets, notably in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, Middle East, and Latin America regions, according to a global study by Nielsen.

The study “Changing Consumer Prosperity”, which analyzes consumer behavior regarding their financial situation and their willingness to consume, concluded that, with respect to Portuguese consumers, 45% consider that their financial situation has improved in recent years, registering an increase of 12 percentage points versus 2016.

Comparative

When compared to their European counterparts, Portuguese consumers feel their situation has improved more, given that the European average stands at 37%, an increase of three percentage points compared to 2016.

“ In 2013, the outlook was truly negative in Portugal, with consumers registering minimum levels in the confidence index compiled by Nielsen. At that time, the Portuguese were classified as one of the most pessimistic peoples in the world. Given this scenario, the fact that there have been constant improvements in the country's economic situation has clearly led to a greater sense of relief and a feeling of improvement compared to other countries ,” explains Ana Paula Barbosa, Retailer Vertical Director at Nielsen.
