PlasticsEurope calls for coherent and harmonized implementation of the directive on single-use plastics.

PlasticsEurope, the pan-European association of plastics producers, welcomes the formal adoption of the European directive on single-use plastics, but calls on Brussels to develop clear guidelines on definitions and categories in order to avoid possible differing interpretations among Member States.

According to the association, if these guidelines are not formulated as soon as possible, the adoption of national measures could go beyond the requirements established in the European text and hinder the proper functioning of the European Union's single market.

PlasticsEurope is one of the leading European business associations, with centers in Brussels, Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Milan and Paris. It has over 100 member companies, which produce more than 90% of the polymers manufactured in the 28 member states, Norway, Switzerland and Türkiye.

Although 56% of participants in an international Ipsos study believe that artificial intelligence is having a positive impact on the world, trust in the technology is beginning to show signs of erosion, especially among younger consumers and in previously enthusiastic markets. The “Ipsos Global Trends 2026” report shows a decline in the positive perception of AI among 16-34 year olds and identifies growing concern about the effects of the technology on employment, society, and daily life.
