METRO

Metro achieves sales above pre-pandemic levels.

Wholesale giant Metro AG reported a 9,9% increase in sales in its fourth quarter. Sales totaled €7,1 billion, with Western and Eastern Europe above pre-pandemic levels.

“ Our multichannel approach was a clear advantage ,” comments Steffen Greubel, CEO of Metro AG. “ Especially during the months marked by unstable pandemic conditions, a combination of flexible stores, deliveries, and digital solutions convinced our customers .”

In the fourth quarter, all of the group's main regions showed increases: Western Europe grew 11,8%, Eastern Europe 15,2%, Asia 11,3% and Russia 6,6%. In its home market, Germany, sales to Horeca customers rose by double digits, the group added, but this was not enough to offset declines recorded in other customer groups, including a reduction in the tobacco business.
