Coca-Cola will invest approximately seven billion dollars in Mexico by 2018. This amount will be directed towards production lines, refrigeration equipment, trucks, and distribution centers.
The American multinational will also invest in an innovation center in South America, to be inaugurated at the end of this year, dedicated to non-caloric natural sweeteners. It should be noted that, of the 500 beverage brands offered by the company, almost 40% have zero calories or are low in calories.
Investing in sustainability
Furthermore, Coca-Cola will also invest in sustainability, with programs reaching five million Mexicans, including the planting of 60 million trees by the end of the year.
These investments were announced at the inauguration of the expansion of the PET recycling unit in Toluca, Mexico, in which Coca-Cola invested $100 million to make it the largest unit of its kind in the world, with the capacity to process 3.100 billion bottles and 65 tons of PET per year.
