The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), the global body representing the interests of the consumer goods sector, has elected Emmanuel Faber, chairman and CEO of Danone, and Özgür Tort, CEO of Migros Ticaret, to chair its board, with responsibilities for industry and retail, respectively.
The two managers will perform these functions for two years, replacing Ian Cook of Colgate-Palmolive and Olaf Koch of the Metro Group.
Meanwhile, James Quincey, chairman and CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, and Daniel Zhang, CEO of the Alibaba Group, were appointed vice-chairmen.
Emmanuel Faber and Özgür Tort assume their roles at a crucial time for The Consumer Goods Forum, given the disruption facing the sector. According to the forum, consumers, employees, and investors increasingly expect companies to have a purpose beyond profits, while new technologies are creating opportunities to reshape traditional business models. The scale and pace of change make collaboration across the value chain essential, and the new co-chairs will contribute their expertise in industry and retail to unite The Consumer Goods Forum members in addressing issues such as plastics, food waste, deforestation, forced labor, food safety, consumer health, and employee well-being. “ The health of people and the planet is the greatest challenge of the 21st century. We must act now to create a sustainable future, and all stakeholders must join forces in this direction. I am convinced that our industry has a decisive role to play. The Consumer Goods Forum embodies a unique platform to drive positive change through collaboration at the local and global levels, in order to reinvent the industry model ,” says Emmanuel Faber. “ We are all aware that we must grow sustainably and responsibly in order to meet consumer expectations and fulfill our responsibility to future generations. Obviously, this requires significant changes in how we do business. All change involves various risks that we must face together. In this new era of the consumer goods industry, collaboration between all parties, including retailers, manufacturers, legal authorities, universities, non-governmental organizations, and digital platforms, will be fundamental to strengthening our sector and having a direct benefit on consumers' lives in the future ,” adds Özgür Tort.
