UPS has announced the launch of its new Access Point service in the cities of Lisbon and Porto, as it celebrates 25 years in Portugal.
UPS Access Points are a network of small neighborhood businesses, such as convenience stores, gas stations, or newsstands, that offer consumers the possibility of picking up orders at their convenience. Small business owners and end consumers can also benefit from UPS Access Points to leave orders that will be delivered through the company's global logistics network, which spans 220 countries and territories.
UPS plans to open 60 UPS Access Point locations in Lisbon and Porto by the end of 2018. Currently, it has more than 28 access points in over 20 countries across Europe and North America.
Since beginning operations in Portugal in 1993, UPS has grown and now has a team of over 180 people, a fleet of 130 delivery vans, two distribution centers in Lisbon and Porto, and seven service counters throughout the country. “ In the year we celebrate UPS’s 25th anniversary in Portugal, we are very excited to launch this new service. This is a country with a very rich history of commerce, and it has been a pleasure to support companies of all sizes and help them connect to our intelligent global logistics network over the last quarter-century ,” says Fernando Falcón, General Manager of UPS Portugal and Spain. “ Our new UPS Access Point offering in Portugal provides customers with even more options, convenience, and control over their orders, at a time when the Portuguese economy and e-commerce continue to grow .”
This investment in Portugal is part of the two billion dollars allocated by the company to its network and infrastructure in Europe until 2019. UPS is in the midst of a major transformation process, the largest undertaken in recent decades, with priority given to resources. The investments aim to fulfill the strategy and provide long-term returns for shareholders. In early 2017, the company announced plans to upgrade its global smart logistics network, increasing capacity and efficiency through state-of-the-art processes, information technology and automation.
