Touriga Franca 2016 reinforces the offering of AdegaMãe.

The iconic Douro grape variety is the main novelty in the new AdegaMãe range of red wines.

In the Atlantic terroir that defines the Lisbon Wine Region, the higher temperature ranges favor the ripening of red grapes. Thanks to a partnership that has been developing for almost a decade at Quinta de Dom Carlos, in Alenquer, some of the harvests that have been used in various blends of red wines arrive at AdegaMãe. A plot of Touriga Franca goes unnoticed, which AdegaMãe's winemaking team finally vinifies in the 2016 harvest to assess its evolution in the cellar.

The Douro grape variety, crucial in Port and DOC Douro wines, is so prominent that it is being bottled as a varietal and even included in the house's Reserva blend. Thus, a new single-varietal wine is born: the AdegaMãe Touriga Franca 2016, as well as a new Dory Reserva 2016, the highlights in the range of red wines that AdegaMãe is now launching on the market. “ The backbone of Port wines and many Douro DOCs, Touriga Franca reveals itself to be much more than a blending grape, with some excellent examples of varietals in the country and with this very particular expression in our Lisbon terroir, which greatly surprised us. Our best tribute to the way it asserted itself, in the harvest and in its evolution in the cellar, was to bottle it, from the outset, as a varietal. But we were so enthusiastic that we went further, to the point of also integrating it into the blend of our Dory Reserva ,” says Diogo Lopes, winemaker at AdegaMãe.

“ We have a wine with structure, but at the same time balanced with the acidity that our Atlantic terroir gives it. The tannins emerge velvety and the final result is of great elegance ,” continues Diogo Lopes, regarding the AdegaMãe Touriga Franca 2016. About the new Dory Reserva Tinto 2016, the new blend integrates four grape varieties: Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. “ We continue to take consistent steps in the evolution of a red wine that is already a benchmark of the Lisbon Region, blending complexity, elegance, and freshness. It is a modern, luscious, and very gastronomic wine ,” he states.

In parallel, AdegaMãe is also launching new editions of its Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Merlot varietals, from the 2015 vintage, which was one of the best red wine harvests in AdegaMãe's history.
