The so-called Google tax, recently decreed by the Spanish government, will have a negative impact on consumers of between 515 million and 665 million euros, according to a study by PwC.
The study estimates that the tax will cost each consumer 30 euros per year. This loss stems from the fact that companies pass part of the tax on to the consumer in the final price of products and services.
The impact on company profits is estimated at between 450 million and 562 million euros, in addition to the increased cost of using online platforms and marketing, and the decrease in sales resulting from price increases.
The Google tax creates a tax on digital services. Advertising, intermediation, and the sale of online data are subject to a 3% tax on companies with a global turnover of €750 million and €3 million in Spain.
