Continente's Nutritional Traffic Light System celebrates 10 years.

Continente celebrates the 10th anniversary of the nutritional traffic light system, a pioneering system in the Portuguese market that, through the use of colors and symbols on the front of packaging, provides information about the nutritional profile of products, allowing consumers to make more informed choices when shopping, in a simpler way.

At a time when there is growing concern about food and nutritional issues – 71% of Portuguese people say they want access to information about the food they consume (data from Continente's Market Research Department) – this milestone of Continente's nutritional traffic light system takes on even greater relevance for the brand. “ Over these 10 years, food in Portugal has changed, and consumers are now more attentive, demanding, and active. Continente, as a trusted brand, assumes the responsibility of meeting their growing expectations and concerns regarding food. Continente's nutritional traffic light system has been very well received by consumers and represents a decisive criterion for many of them when making purchasing decisions. Currently, the Continente private label brand comprises around four thousand products, and we intend for it to continue growing. In the case of food products, we will always prioritize placing the traffic light system on the front of the packaging for as many products as possible ,” says Ana Alves, Commercial Director of Continente Private Labels.

This product labeling system associates a three-color code, similar to a traffic light, with the percentage of Daily Reference Value (DRV) for four specific nutrients: fat, saturated fat, sugar, and salt, taking into account the serving size of the food.
