Samsung announced its latest innovation in modular Micro LED technology during its annual First Look event at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
The models presented at the event include a new 75-inch screen, the Samsung “The Wall” with 219 inches – among other dimensions – and innovative configurations that will create a new generation of modular Micro LED displays (winner of the CES Best of Innovation Award in 2019). “ For decades, Samsung has led the way in innovation when it comes to next-generation displays ,” says Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display at Samsung Electronics. “ Our Micro LED technology is at the forefront of the next revolution in the display market, with intelligent and customizable displays that excel in every category. Samsung Micro LED displays have no limits, only endless possibilities .”
These screens are composed of individual self-emitting micro LED modules, which incorporate millions of microscopic, inorganic red, green, and blue LED chips that emit their own light to produce brilliant colors on the screen, offering image quality that surpasses any technology currently available on the market.
Micro LED modular technology offers flexibility in screen size, allowing consumers to customize the sizes and shapes of their televisions. By adding Micro LED modules, users can expand their screen to the desired size. This modular functionality of Micro LED will, in the future, allow the creation of screens with irregular dimensions of 9x3, 1x7 or 5x1, adapting to space, aesthetic and functional requirements.
Samsung's Micro LED technology also optimizes content regardless of screen size and format. Even when modules are added, Samsung Micro LED displays can scale to increase resolution while maintaining constant pixel density. Additionally, Micro LED can support content from standard 16:9 to 21:9, unusual ratios of 32:9, or even 1:1, without compromising image quality.
Finally, because Micro LED screens are frameless, there are no margins between modules, even when added. The result is a perfect "infinite" effect, allowing the screen to blend elegantly into any environment. All design possibilities are possible thanks to the features of the new Ambient Mode.
