The Consumer Choice Association conducted an online study from August 22nd to 26th to find out how consumers will manage their family budget during this back-to-school period.
The free provision of school textbooks, covering all compulsory public education, has proven to be a great help to families, who during the month of August already began using the vouchers issued by the MEGA platform, alleviating the costs of returning to school.
For the purchase of school supplies and books, 35% of consumers expect to spend up to 50 euros, 33% intend to spend up to 100 euros, and 32% up to 200 euros.
Interestingly, 82% of respondents prefer to shop in person and 18% prefer to shop online.
Regarding the place of purchase, 68% usually buy the material in supermarkets/hypermarkets, 19% in stationery stores (local businesses), and 13% say they prefer specialized stores or other types of places that sell these items.
Extracurricular activities
In the context of extracurricular activities, the number of extracurricular activities was also questioned; 47% intend to enroll their child(ren) in two, 35% plan to enroll them in only one activity, and 18% plan on enrolling them in three or more activities, with swimming and football being the most popular sports among consumers.
48% of respondents have a monthly family budget for tutoring/explanations/activities between 50 and 100 euros, 27% choose to spend more than 100 euros per month, and 25% of the population intend to spend only up to 50 euros.
According to the data obtained, 73% of respondents stated that their children will attend public schools, 24% mentioned private schools, and 4% cooperative schools.
