Quinta do Bomfim, a wine tourism venture owned by the Symington family and located in the heart of the Alto Douro region, near the village of Pinhão, is among the 50 best wine estates in the world, according to the World's Best Vineyards award, sponsored by the International Wine Challenge.
The award celebrates the legacy of the Symington family's history, present in the Douro for five generations, which is felt at Quinta do Bomfim and reaches its peak when tasting the wines created there on a terrace overlooking the Douro River. The World's Best Vineyards highlights the fact that Quinta do Bomfim is the birthplace of two of the most famous Port wines of the 21st century: Dow's Vintage 2007, the only Port this century to receive 100 points from Wine Spectator, and the Vintage 2011 (number one in the top 100), which was considered the "Wine of the Year" by the same magazine. “ The guided tour is unmissable. It begins in a museum that tells the story of the property, the Symington family, and their wines. Next, choose between three vineyard walks that offer unique views of the surrounding area and the terraces, many of which were hand-built in the 18th and 19th centuries. The visit also includes the magnificent lodge. Built in 1896, the space, with its complex wooden roof, houses centuries-old Port wine barrels, which are then transported to Vila Nova de Gaia to age ,” the jury stated.
Quinta do Bomfim had already received international recognition in 2017 as the global winner for Wine Tourism Services, from the Best of Wine Tourism awards, given by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. It is with enormous satisfaction that we see the work we have been developing at Quinta do Bomfim since 2015 being recognized once again. Above all, we want to promote the Douro region, which is unique both for its sublime landscape and for the superior quality wines it produces.”, says Johnny Symington, chairman of Symington.
