Following in the footsteps of what has always been the tradition of Quinta de Lemos, another woman joins the wine family of this Dão project. The first sparkling wines from this estate are now seeing the light of day, under the name Geraldine, one of the daughters of Celso de Lemos, founder and owner of the estate.
It was Geraldine's festive personality that inspired the choice of names for the estate's first sparkling wines.Launching our sparkling wines on the market was a long-held desire.“This is what the winery’s winemaker, Hugo Chaves, who has been part of the project since its founding in 1997, affirms. In 2014, we already produced a white sparkling wine that we served at Mesa de Lemos, made from Touriga Nacional and Encruzado grapes, which was a success. Now, it seems to us the ideal moment to launch these two Quinta de Lemos sparkling wines, one more social and the other distinctly gastronomic, with the usual character that distinguishes our wines.".
Geraldine rosé, a limited production of 2.500 bottles, is a single-varietal Touriga Nacional wine. On the palate, it is refined and sophisticated, with notes of red fruit and raspberry. With fine, persistent bubbles and a salmon hue, it is dense, structured, with balanced acidity and a sociable character.
Regarding the Geraldine white, it is a single-varietal Encruzado, a grape variety exclusive to the Dão region, of which four thousand bottles were produced. With only 11,7% alcohol content, this sparkling wine has a good structure, is dry and has pronounced acidity, which gives it freshness and longevity. It is a very gastronomic wine, with a fine floral aroma of citrus and white-fleshed fruit. Both sparkling wines aged for 18 months on fine lees.
In addition to the first sparkling wines from Quinta de Lemos, the new wine harvests for this year were also launched on Berlenga Island: the white Paulette 2017, the rosé Nélita 2017 (1.200 numbered bottles), and the red Lucita 2017.
