LG Electronics (LG) has just announced the availability of Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit functionalities across its entire 2019 AI (Artificial Intelligence) television lineup starting today, July 25th, making LG the first global television manufacturer to support HomeKit. These Apple features will be available through a firmware update for all 2019 LG OLED, NanoCell, and UHD televisions with ThinQ AI capability.
With AirPlay 2, LG AI TV users can easily stream content – including Dolby Vision HDR videos – from their iPhone, iPad, and Mac directly to their TVs. This allows them to watch their favorite movies and TV shows from the Apple TV app and other video applications, as well as view photos directly on their LG AI TVs. They can also play Apple Podcasts, Apple Music, and music from their personal library or other streaming services through their LG AI TV and other AirPlay 2-compatible speakers throughout their home simultaneously – all in sync.
In turn, HomeKit allows users to conveniently control their smart home with their Apple devices via the Home app or Siri. LG AI TVs can be easily added to these features, from which users can access basic TV functions such as power, volume, and source. LG AI TVs can also be added to tasks or automations along with other HomeKit accessories.
“ LG continues to be at the forefront of technological innovation in televisions due to our relentless pursuit of delivering the best home viewing experience ,” says Brian Kwon, president of LG Mobile Communications and Home Entertainment. “ With the availability of Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit, we are clearly demonstrating our commitment to consumers and to offering benefits that go beyond best-in-class picture quality .”
Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit functionalities will begin rolling out to LG OLED TVs and NanoCell TVs with the α7 intelligent processor in over 140 countries starting this week, with the update continuing over the following weeks.
