Joana Pinhão, winemaker at Quinta Vale D. Maria, was distinguished as Young Winemaker of the Year at the W Awards – Aníbal Coutinho 2018.

Joana Pinhão had already been nominated for this category in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Holding a degree in Agronomic Engineering with a specialization in Viticulture and Oenology from the Higher Institute of Agronomy in Lisbon, the oenologist began her professional career in 2006 at Casa Cadaval as an intern oenologist. A year later, during the harvest season, she joined the Quinta Vale D. Maria project to assist Sandra Tavares da Silva and Cristiano van Zeller in the production of DOC Douro wines and Port wines.

Holding a Level 3 certification from the WSET – The Wine & Spirit Education Trust, Joana Pinhão joined the winemaking team at Quinta Vale D. Maria in December 2007, where she remains to this day, assisting Cristiano and Francisca van Zeller.

Although 56% of participants in an international Ipsos study believe that artificial intelligence is having a positive impact on the world, trust in the technology is beginning to show signs of erosion, especially among younger consumers and in previously enthusiastic markets. The “Ipsos Global Trends 2026” report shows a decline in the positive perception of AI among 16-34 year olds and identifies growing concern about the effects of the technology on employment, society, and daily life.
