Jerónimo Martins enters Slovakia with Biedronka.

The Jerónimo Martins Group officially launched its operations in Slovakia this Wednesday with the inauguration of its distribution center and its first Biedronka store in the country, which becomes the Group's fourth geographical area, joining Portugal, Poland, and Colombia.

Biedronka's entry into Slovakia is the first step in internationalization taken by a food retail brand of the Group and represents a historic milestone as it marks the arrival of a new player to the Slovak market in the last 20 years.

In addition to the first store opened this Wednesday in Miloslavov, near Bratislava, Biedronka will soon open stores in other Slovak cities, namely Zvolen, Považská Bystrica, Nové Zámky and Senica, in a strategy aimed at gradually expanding the brand to other regions of Slovakia. In total, the company currently employs around 300 people in its stores, distribution center in Voderady, and headquarters in Bratislava.

Jerónimo Martins Biedronka SlovakiaBiedronka's first store in Slovakia boasts an assortment of 3.400 products, with a focus on fresh fruits and vegetables, sourced locally whenever possible, and bread baked in several batches throughout the day.

With a sales area of ​​876 square meters, the inaugural store stands out for its modern design and is equipped with LED lighting, six self-checkout counters and three traditional checkout counters, electronic price tags, price checkers, and a packaging deposit and return system machine.

“Our priority is to offer Slovak customers fresh, high-quality food at the lowest prices. From the start of this project, we have also focused on partnering with Slovak suppliers, with whom we have developed several private label brands that stand out for their freshness, quality, and sustainability,” said Maciej Łukowski, CEO of Biedronka Slovakia, regarding the company's entry into the market.
