InPost has already installed its first Lockers in Portugal, smart lockers for collecting online orders, located in public places and in stores, operating 24 hours a day, so that users can decide when to pick up their purchases.
InPost lockers are completely secure for the user, as only the user will be able to access their contents, thanks to a PIN code they will receive when collecting their order.
The customer will be able to choose which locker they wish to receive their order in, so the company is preparing a plan to deploy lockers throughout the Iberian Peninsula, adding to the more than 21 it already has across Europe.
This announcement follows the opening of the 2.000th Pack Point in Portugal at the end of October 2023, representing a 100% growth in the network compared to the one thousand collection points registered in March of last year.
Sustainable and flawless deliveries
Smart lockers will coexist with the Ponto Pack network, located mainly in local shops throughout Portugal, which offer the possibility of collecting online orders and then delivering them to consumers who have selected these locations as delivery points.
InPost's goal is to create a hybrid network for non-home deliveries, combining Point Pack and lockers. An algorithm determines the best locations in the city to install the lockers.
Nicola D'Elia, CEO of InPost for Portugal, Spain, and Italy, highlights the advantages of using these lockers as delivery points for online orders. “ To begin with, they offer greater freedom to the user, since they don't have to be at home at the time of delivery, the time of which is almost always unknown. Furthermore, they operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the customer can choose the locker closest to the area they are traveling to, whether for work or leisure, or even because they live nearby. This reduces lost deliveries to zero – a saving of time, but also a saving for the environment, given the reduction in polluting emissions .”
Lockers make deliveries more efficient. InPost explains that, in an eight-hour shift, a typical home delivery driver can make between 80 and 100 stops and therefore deliver between 80 and 100 packages. An InPost driver, however, with only five to 10 stops, can deliver between 800 and 1,000 packages.
This means that, thanks to its business model, InPost is able to deliver more parcels, helping to reduce traffic in cities, which translates into a considerable decrease in CO2 emissions.
Another year of record results.
InPost once again successfully concluded the peak season, processing a total of 268,4 million parcels in the fourth quarter, representing a 21% increase year-over-year.
Volume growth was driven by strong performance in InPost's international markets. International parcel volumes, which represent 35% of the group's total volumes, reached 93 million in the fourth quarter of 2023 (up 28% YoY), driven primarily by the very strong UK market with 17,2 million parcels delivered (up 169% YoY and up 29% QoQ) and also by continued encouraging growth from Mondial Relay, which reached 70,6 million parcels (up 9% YoY, with B2C volumes growing 30% YoY).
On the busiest day of the fourth quarter, the InPost Group served 11 million parcels, and in Poland, InPost was the only company that guaranteed deliveries before December 24th.
