They both have a well-known connection to the world of wine, but had never worked together before. Bento Amaral, director of Technical Services and Certification at the Douro and Porto Wine Institute, after decades of work in the Port wine sector, now heads this inclusive project in the wine sector with Cláudio Martins, CEO of Martins Wine Advisor. Together they are the face of Humanwinety, an entity created to “empower minority groups, increasing their knowledge and helping them find a place in the wine and hospitality sectors”.
With a humanitarian character ingrained in the company's genetic code, it already has the Gerard Basset Foundation as an international partner, and the first activation and awareness-raising actions are already scheduled. In addition to this alliance, more than a dozen national companies have already shown interest in supporting this new project. In September, two auctions will take place, one in Porto and the other in Lisbon, to support the work that Cáritas has been developing for the most needy, namely Ukrainian refugees.
Humanwinety's mission is "to empower individuals who, for some reason and/or moment in their lives, have become more vulnerable, experiencing difficulties in their training or at the key time of employability. It aims to support the sector that has suffered from a gap in the retention of specialized human resources in recent years, providing perspective to increase the underrepresented cultural or racial diversity, people with motor and cognitive disabilities, as well as equalizing opportunities for these groups . "
B-learning actions
Humanwinety will form these groups through a blended learning scheme that will enhance their knowledge and provide them with the necessary tools for proper professional development, offering professional internships in collaboration with its partners and future integration into the job market. “I embrace a project in which I deeply believe. I am certain that, through Humanwinety, we can create opportunities for professional fulfillment for people from groups with less social visibility. I understand that I am privileged because, despite my limitations, I have been given the conditions to achieve professional fulfillment. I want other people to have the same opportunities for inclusion ,” declares Bento Amaral, Wine Inspiring Executive at Humanwinety.
“The fact that I am associated with 'fine wines' and 'luxury' does not prevent me from wanting to contribute to inclusion. I feel I should use my experience and contacts to support those who do not have the same access, because ultimately these people will also help us all by bringing dynamism to the market. We want to intervene in the humanitarian crisis. We want to promote diversity in society, raising awareness of equal opportunities through specialized training for the wine and hospitality sectors. We want to provide online training accompanied by mentors and subsequent training in a professional environment (internship) with our partners ,” explains Cláudio Martins, Wine Global Wizard at Humanwinety.
Gérard Basset Foundation
Humanwinety was created in June and, in addition to Bento Amaral and Cláudio Martins, also has Micaela Martins Ferreira, Wine Strategy Commander, and Tiago Coelho, Wine Jedi Creative, on the team.
The Gérard Basset Foundation, co-founded by the late French sommelier Gérard Basset, who held the titles of OBE (Order of the British Empire), MW (Master of Wine) and MS (Master Sommelier), was created in homage to the sommelier to address the main problems of the wine industry through education, training and technical guidance.
