Herdade do Rocim

Herdade do Rocim earns sustainability certification.

Herdade do Rocim has just earned certification under the Alentejo Wines Sustainability Plan developed by the Alentejo Regional Wine Commission.

Located in Cuba, of the 120 hectares of the property, 70 are vineyards, mostly cultivated organically and the remainder in conversion. The premise of its activity is to increase efficiency, reduce the consumption of natural resources, while maintaining a focus on quality.

The Herdade do Rocim Sustainability Plan highlights investments in the vineyard, with soil and water management; in the winery, water and energy management and the materials used in its construction, as well as pest and waste management; and in the relationship with suppliers, opting for those who also comply with environmental regulations. Focusing on team motivation is another component of the Plan that the company prioritizes.

“ Whether in the vineyard, the winery, our relationship with suppliers, or even our human resources policy, we always have a very strong concern for the sustainability of our project, and that is why ROCIM immediately joined this Plan, understanding that all these concerns are part of our DNA, firstly as citizens and naturally as grape and wine producers ,” adds Catarina Vieira, administrator and winemaker at the estate.

“ Being sustainable is much more expensive in terms of budget, but we believe that in the medium and long term we will be largely compensated by the care we have for the environment and for people, ” he concludes.
