Fnac eliminates plastic bags and promotes the adoption of reusable bags.

In the context of World Environment Day, which is celebrated this Wednesday, June 5th, Fnac Portugal announces that it will eliminate plastic bags from its stores, and from October onwards will only offer its customers paper bags, cloth bags, and canvas bags.

With this measure, FNAC aims not only to eliminate the use of plastic in bags, but also to encourage the use of reusable bags, especially cloth and canvas bags. The objective is also to reduce the consumption of paper bags, to lessen the impact on forests. This measure aims to reduce bag consumption by 30%, saving more than 1.000 trees per year (approximately 50 tons of paper).

And because Fnac's purpose is to democratize and promote national culture, all paper bags will feature unique illustrations created by national illustrators. This is also the "kick-off" of a new category in the New Talents Competition, Fnac's flagship program for promoting young and unknown national talents, which in 2020 will include illustration as a category in addition to writing, music, film and photography.

The first four illustrators of the bags will be the jury members. One of the prizes in this category will be the opportunity to develop illustrations that will be featured on Fnac bags.

Also, by implementing this eco-friendly measure, Fnac aims to encourage not only the reuse of bags, reducing their consumption, but also to contribute to its main mission: promoting culture. In this way, one cent from each bag sold will be donated to cultural projects within the Fnac Culture program, thus helping to finance cultural programs accessible to all.

This measure, which has been under development since the beginning of 2019, will have an impact as early as next October.
