FIPA applauds the creation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

FIPA – the Federation of Portuguese Agri-Food Industries – applauds the creation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, emphasizing that its integration into the organic structure of the new Government recognizes the importance of the food production chain and responds to the challenge, already launched by the federation, for a national commitment to the agri-food industry.

Jorge Tomás Henriques, president of FIPA, considers that “the inclusion of food under the purview of a ministry aligns with the proposals that FIPA has been presenting, as we consider the valorization of the agri-food sector essential, given its strong contribution to both the national economy and society. The recent inflationary scenario and disruption in the area of food raw materials and production factors, aggravated by the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, has highlighted the relevance of the national agri-food chain. The creation of this ministry is a positive sign, and we now expect a structural approach that encompasses the various territorial, logistical, economic, and diplomatic aspects to solidify a strategy that promotes the sector's competitiveness and, above all, national food sovereignty.”
