Luís Amaral, the Portuguese businessman who owns the Polish company Eurocash, buys approximately 1% of the DIA Group.
According to El Economista, which cites sources close to the company, Luís Amaral bought the stake held by Amaral Holdings & Hijas, based in Spain.
The Spanish newspaper indicates that the Portuguese businessman is expected to align with the current management of the DIA Group against LetterOne, the fund owned by Russian millionaire Mikhail Fridman, the largest shareholder with 29%, which is considering launching a takeover bid.
Eurocash
It should be noted that the distribution sector is not unfamiliar to the Portuguese businessman, who in 2003 bought the wholesale company Eurocash from Jerónimo Martins. In 2017, the distributor reached an agreement to acquire the Mila supermarket chain, with 188 points of sale, continuing its investment in the retail sector, after having previously acquired the holding company of the EKO and Ledi chains, taking possession of 253 small supermarkets.
