Sonae's investment in the development and qualification of its employees has led to the creation of an initiative to accelerate the recognition of skills and increase the educational level of its employees. This is the MC Qualification Center, which has already allowed around a thousand employees from the group's retail businesses to benefit from recognition at the educational and professional levels.

This Wednesday, June 1st, 650 adults received their qualification diplomas in Lisbon, in a ceremony attended by Ana Mendes Godinho, Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, João Costa, Minister of Education, António Leite, Secretary of State for Education, and Filipa Jesus, president of ANQEP, as well as comedians Joana Marques and Ricardo Araújo Pereira who hosted the event.
“ We continuously invest in the personal and professional development of all our people, namely through an active 'upskilling' strategy, as we know they are our main competitive advantage. The activity we have developed in the last five years, particularly through the MC Qualification Center, has allowed us to increase the qualification level of employees with less than 12th grade education by 17%, tripling the initial target of 5% set for 2020. It is an achievement that makes us all proud and with renewed ambition to maintain this trajectory ,” says Isabel Barros, executive director of MC.
Qualifying Center
In 2017, Sonae, through MC, created a Qualifica Center, an initiative promoted by the State to improve the education and training levels of the Portuguese population and provide better conditions for citizens' employability. Currently, the MC Qualifica Center has more than three thousand registered users, of which 1.350 are in the process of recognition, validation and certification of skills, and one thousand have already benefited from the increase in their qualifications. The average age of the adults is 38 years, 61% are women, and the average length of time in the group is 12 years.
