The Food and Economic Security Authority has, in 2015 and up to the present date, issued 20 orders for restrictive measures that determined the immediate withdrawal of unsafe products from the market, specifically in the categories of toys, construction products, textiles, personal protective equipment, footwear, low-voltage equipment and general product safety.
The adoption of restrictive measures for the collection, withdrawal, or prohibition of making products available on the market is the exclusive responsibility of ASAE (Portuguese Food Safety and Economic Authority), in cases where it holds supervisory authority as stipulated in Decree-Law No. 23/2011 of February 11th, with the decisions published on the authority's website. " These rules contribute to strengthening the protection of consumers and other users, define impartial conditions for economic operators, ensuring that only safe products are made available on the market, and improve the identification of all participants throughout the commercial chain, enhancing product traceability so that products can be quickly withdrawn from the market when they present a risk ," says ASAE in a statement.
The main objective of the restrictive measures taken by ASAE is to alert users in Portugal, reduce the risk of injuries or other damages that may occur, ensure the fairness of commercial transactions, the traceability of products, a healthy environment, and the protection of the internal market.
