Deco Proteste analyzed different beers (25), classic (18) and craft (7), and evaluated their different characteristics, from quality to price. In the ranking presented, Sagres beer stands out in the classic beer category as "The Best in Test", for its quality, achieving 84 points, followed by Super Bock and Stella Artois, both with 80 points, in a study conducted by Dulce Ricardo.
To evaluate the beers, the criteria used were appearance, aroma, fermentation, mouthfeel, flavor, and drinking pleasure. The blind tasting was conducted by professionals from the Beer Judge Certification Program, and the results were published in the July/August 2022 edition of Proteste magazine.
Sagres, the best in the test.
In the ranking presented by the consumer protection association, Sagres beer stands out as "The Best in Test" for its overall quality, achieving a total of 84 points, followed by Super Bock, Perlenbacher (exclusive to Lidl) and Stella Artois, all with 80 points, with Carlsberg (76 points) and Heineken (75 points) closing out the top 6.
Of the eight criteria used, the Vialonga brewery brand achieved the maximum score (5 stars) in six of the indicators used in this analysis.
Right choices
Among the top choices in this test, offering a lower retail price compared to the benchmark while maintaining commendable quality, are A Tua (Mercadona), King Brau (Intermarché), Karls Quell (Aldi), and Gutbier (Continente), with scores ranging from 74 to 70 points.
The same study also indicates that the average price of domestic beers is around 1,55 euros per liter, while imported beers reach almost double the unit value, with a price per liter of 2,86 euros.
As expected, the most expensive beers are the craft beers, with a 33-centiliter bottle ranging from €2,19 to €3,75, resulting in an average of approximately €8 per liter. Sagres beer, the Best in Test among the classic beers, costs at least 65 cents for 33 centiliters, while Stella Artois has an RRP of €1,30.
Praxis wins in the craft market.
In the craft beer test, Praxis Pilsener (69 points) stands out as the Best in Test, as well as a Smart Choice, with an average retail price of €2,75 per 33-centiliter bottle. Vadia Loira (68 points) and Musa Psycho Pilsener (65 points) complete the top 3 craft beers, also considered Smart Choices.
