ANP promotes Pera Rocha in Latin America

The National Association of Rocha Pear Producers (ANP) will be present, for the first time, starting this Wednesday, September 26th, at Expoalimentaria in Peru, one of the main agro-industrial sector fairs in Latin America.

The association aims to promote the Rocha pear in this region, just over a year after the agreement was signed allowing national producers to export this fruit to Peru.

ExpoAlimentaria, which takes place between September 26 and 28 in the capital Lima, in addition to serving as an international meeting point for exporting companies and buyers from various continents (in the last edition, it had the presence of more than 650 companies and 45 visitors from 77 countries), is also an opportunity to deepen knowledge of the Peruvian market and establish new contact networks.

Peru, with a population of over 31,5 million, is the seventh largest economy in Latin America and one of the fastest growing in the last decade. Between 2011 and 2015, Portugal rose seven places in the ranking of suppliers to Peru, with Portuguese food exports growing by 106,4% between 2015 and 2016.

ANP, which will be integrated into the InovCluster – Agro-Industrial Cluster of the Center's stand, will take advantage of its participation in ExpoAlimentaria to promote Rocha pears to other Latin American markets, an increasingly attractive destination. Besides Brazil, the largest export market for Rocha pears, this exclusively Portuguese pear variety is already present in countries such as Colombia and Uruguay. Last May, the first Rocha pears were also sent to Mexico.

Participation in ExpoAlimentaria 2018 is one of the initiatives organized within the scope of the project “Promotion of Rocha Pear in Foreign Markets”, with which ANP aims to increase the competitiveness and international visibility of Rocha Pear and its country of origin. The objective is to contribute to increased exports through strengthened promotion abroad and a better understanding of target markets, stimulating the sector's progression in the value chain. The project is co-financed by Compete 2020, within the scope of the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Internationalisation. The total investment is €430.902, of which 85% is financed by the ERDF – European Regional Development Fund and includes promotional and communication activities.
